Smudge Fans

Smudge Fans

"Smudging" is an Old English word that relates to the traditional practice of fumigating and cleansing animals, people, places and objects using the smoke from burning plant matter (similar to Native American and other ritual practices).

People (the world over) often employ some form of fan to help them waft the smoke so that it reaches areas you might not be able to get to ordinarily. I have crafted these fan from feathers I have wild gathered (a practice not illegal here in the British Isles), from feathers shed naturally by a range of birds. Sometimes I leave the feathers untouched and natural, other times I am drawn to adding highlights and embellishments to the feathers with dyes and paints.

The handles are created with adhesive which has been embellished with a genuine crystal and painted to give it an extra special finish.

Each fan is truly unique, and once sold it can not be replaced, though I may be able to fashion a similar fan on request.

Please choose which design you would like from the following selection - you will receive the actual fan pictured.
